Thanks to everyone who came down to our CD release at Luckeys on April 27th. We had a friggin' blast - our ions have just now settled down enough that we can get back to work like normal human beings. Our CD EDGY is available at CD World in Eugene and also House of Records, also in Ewegene. Your best bet, if you'd like to purchase our CD, is, of course, to come and see us at one of our upcoming shows and just pick it up from our merch station. UPCOMING KEWL UNDERLINGS SHOWS: June 16th at Slabtown in Portland with the Decliners and the Anxietiesand alsoJune 22 at Luckeys in Eugene, which is a benefit for Womenspace set up by our friend (and favorite waiter) Ian Gray. Fewkin come see us!!
We hope to see you there! We are totally stoked to bring together 2 of our favorite current bands - the Lovesores from PDX and Eugene's own Soothesayers. The Lovesores features Scott Deluxe Drake from the Humpers and also features members of The Vice Principals, The Suicide Kings, The Fast Takers and 8 Foot Tender. They fucking rock. Combined with the Soothesayers, this is going to be a super-charged night of rock and roll hell. Oh...and not to mention it's our CD release for our long-awaited second CD, EDGY. We recorded it at Mike Lastra's Smegma Studios in North Portland and laid the tracks completely down in 3 days last June. Later we went back to mix it in 2 days and that was that. Throw in umpteen shows in Eugene and Portland and we saved up enough in our war chest to finance the release of the CD without any external or credit-oriented contributors. Rock and roll paid for this CD, so come out and buy one and support our asses, we want to celebrate the release of our new songs unto the world.
Heck yeah, we had a great time taking the opening slot for Pierced Arrows last Friday night at ol' Sam Bond's. Our set was well-received; we saw lots of friends and they saw us, too. Underlings Prac has not happened with the usual frequency this month, being that I've been moving to Portland - I think I'm there now - but we rocked it nonetheless, maybe with just a few rough edges; just like our crowd, some would say. The Soothesayers took the stage after us, and they had a super-charged set, sounding totally different without their mainstay keyboard player Jenn :( we were all disappointed that she wasn't there, but hell yeah, they rocked, and Sam's vocals were as chilling as ever. Pierced Arrows are a big fave around the Underlings camp, so we were in the room and paying full attention the whole time they were up doing their thing. They sounded raw, ragged and real and hit on several Dead Moon songs that the crowd were happy to hear. Toody and Fred weer nice as always and we wished them well, collected our shit and went home for konk time. We prbably don't have to tell you that our CD release is later this month at Luckeys, but we will tell you that we will be thrilled if you come out and see us. It's taken us 5 years and a lot of sweat, blood and motivation to scrape up the loyal cadre of fans that we have, but we are always recruiting new members to our flock, so come out and congregate with us on April 27th down at the ol' Luckeys in Eugene. We'll take your money and give you an earful in return.
Things are progressing in Underlings-Land. OF COURSE, we are beyond stoked to play with Pierced Arrows April 6 at Sam Bonds with Soothesayers. See above poster and then come see us at the show!
Our 2012 CD, Edgy, is imminent to be released April 27 at Luckeys in Eugene. We're really stoked about playing with Lovesores from Portland and our good buddies the Soothesayers that night. Hopefully, we will get our asses in gear to write and submit press releases to the local papers so we can get the word out to our kin-folk out there in the hills of outer Lane county.
Here is a preview of a few tracks from Edgy courtesy of our bandcamp page. Free for a limited time!
Kelly's Olympian was a blast last night. PLaying with our bro band FASTERS was fun and they certainly rocked the house with at least a few new songs I'd not yet heard. The bar side was pretty near full of folks before the bands went on; I spent much time chillin' talking to friends and drinking some kind of unpronounceable beer. Everyone drifted over to the band side once the Fasters started, so I moseyed along with them and took in the rock. Taken Outside and Shot Twice (T.O.A.S.T.) were on second, and they rocked the house and were really fewking funny to boot. I especially dug the Jesus Christ / white belt, Kung Fu hippie member, his motor-breath speed-rapping was great and the band seared along with a blood-pumping, modern alt-metal crunch, although they all look like regular dudes in tutus and superhero underwear. Not to be missed, go get burnt by T.O.A.S.T. sometime. The Underlings crawled up onstage last and we rocked it despite Dave's bass amp crapping out a couple times. Luckily, the sound guy was very competent and raised the bass to an appropriate level and we proceeded to do our thing. Lost my voice by the end of the set, but people seemed to dig and everyone stayed and it was very nice. We even sold a couple CDs and a 7", say yay for commerce. Now, we head back into our practice cavern to prepare for our next event: April 6th at Sam Bond's Garage with the Soothesayers and Pierced Arrows.
I didn't bring a camera for any image-capturing last night, so here is someone else's video of a song by the Cry! a tuneful young quartet of lads from Portland. Ya know how sometimes, as you go through life, you get confronted by youthful energy, talent and vigor, and you want to hate it, but then you actually get lost in it and just have a fucking good time? That's what the Cry! did for me. Great songs, great playing, great singing, great style choice and only 20 years old...goddammit, grrrrr....Fuck Yeah! A totally fun act, I'll go see them next time they play in town. They remind me of my friends from way back, Brent's T.V. from Arcata. We, the Underlings had a good, tight set and I caught sight of several friends, groovin' hard to the rock. We cut it loose, put the pedal down and rocked out, and it felt good. I can't wait for our CD release at Luckeys on April 27, it always seems to be the one room in town that fits our sound the best. OK kids, rock and roll, we will next be playing at Kelly's Olympian in Portland this coming Saturday, I hope to see some P-town friends out that night.
I can't believe the luck we have. When ya get a call that speaks in your ear, " you guys wanna play with Pierced Arrows?", what do you say? Hell yes! Thank you, Gods of Rock for letting this bit of good fate trickle down onto us, your underlings. We also have a killer show coming up next week, opening for Portland power-pop band the Cry down at Luckeys February 18th. In the meantime, we are doing our best to get some out-of-town legends to appear on a bill with us in the EUG, trying to bring the ROCK back to the dankest citidal of gloom on the west coast.
